Creating Rituals That Ground You: 5 Small Practices with Big Impact

Creating Rituals That Ground You: 5 Small Practices with Big Impact

There’s something sacred about the small moments—the breath you take before you move, the stillness of your space before the world asks for your attention.

At Incentional, we believe that ritual doesn’t have to be complex. It’s not about the aesthetics (though we looooove a good vibe); it’s about the feeling. The presence. The energy you bring into your day.

Here are five simple rituals you can start practicing right now—no pressure, no perfection. Just you, your space, and the intention to return to yourself!

1. Romanticize the Ordinary

Your morning coffee or tea . Washing your face. Making your bed. These are all invitations to move slower and be more intentional.

Next time you’re doing one of these things, ask yourself:

“What would it feel like to treat this as a ritual?”

Light your incense. Play soft music. Be there, fully.

2. 5-5-5 Breathwork

Anytime you feel scattered or overstimulated, come back to your breath. Try this:

  • Inhale for 5 counts

  • Hold for 5 counts

  • Exhale for 5 counts

Repeat a few times, maybe with one hand on your heart. You don’t need 30 minutes of meditation to feel peace—you just need presence.

3. Strike a Match with Intention

Lighting something—be it incense, a candle... just do it with intention.
Before you strike the match, pause. Breathe in. Ask yourself,

“What energy do I want to bring into this space?”

Let the flame be a reminder that you’re creating something sacred—even if it’s just a few quiet moments before your day begins.

4. Touch Grass, Literally

If you can step outside—even for 2 minutes—do it barefoot. Feel the ground. Let the sun or wind touch your skin. Nature regulates our nervous system in ways we’re still remembering. I LOVE A BAREFOOT MOMENT!

You don’t need a whole hike. Just connection.

5. Gratitude Out Loud

Say one thing out loud you’re grateful for before bed. Even if it’s:

“I made it through today.”

The voice you speak in becomes the one you live in. Let it hold softness, and power, and realness.

Final Thoughts

Ritual doesn’t have to be perfect, and you don’t have to do all of this every day. Start with one. Return to it when you need to. That’s the beauty of ritual—it’s always waiting for you.
